Bug Description

After installing ubuntu to a usb hard drive the kernel doesnt boot, i get a

pivot_root: No such file or directory
/sbint/init 428 : cannot open dev/console: No such file

i tried rebuilding the initrd image with the all the usb drivers, but i get the
same message.

Booting a root filesystem on a USB device is not currently supported; this

FYI

The two critical changes I made to have a new initrd that works on my system:

1) Add ehci_hcd on a line of /etc/mkinitrd/modules
2) Increase parameter DELAY in /etc/mkinitrd/mkinitrd.conf to 10 seconds

See the following link for a step by step procedure:

Hi! This ought to work no with either the colony 4 CDs or the preview that's
about to come out. Are you able to do a test install to see?

Failing that, you should also not need those modules in your
/etc/mkinitramfs/modules file either on current breezy.

Tks,
Jeff Bailey
