Bug Description

Basically, X doesn't load on boot-up of the live CD. I'm running a Packard Bell laptop, with a ATI Radeon 200M graphics card, pci id 1002:5a62 , and a R61 ATI wireless adapter.

After checking Ubuntu Gutsy Tribe 5 for defects, I loaded the live CD by simply pressing enter on "Start or install Ubuntu".
The Ubuntu splash screen shows as is normal in feisty. After a while, the screen changes to what I call terminal mode, you know, where what is being loaded is displayed with an [OK] signal after each statement. The only abnormal things I noticed were errors when loading the network, and errors when loading cups. When you get to the point of loading GDM, the screen simply goes blank. Pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2 doesn't do anything.
If, I choose "Start or install Ubuntu in safe graphics mode", the messages get a bit further than loading GDM. The screen goes blank, then returns to the terminal, several times. Finally, still in what I call terminal mode, a message box says X failed to load, and asks whether I would like to view more details. I can do so if wish, by pressing enter on Yes. Otherwise, I return to the terminal, similar to what you get when you press Ctrl-Alt-F2.
Like I said, I'm running a laptop, with a ATI Radeon 200M graphics card, and a R61 ATI wireless adapter. If I load the official Ubuntu Feisty Live CD, X loads correctly.

This is /var/log/Xorg.0.log, from the live CD, copied via the terminal to the harddisk.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It would be quite helpful if you could provide us with the exact chipset of your video card. The full output of the command 'lspci -vvnn' will have that information. You can run this command from Feisty or Gutsy and the results will be the same. Thanks in advance.

OK, did that, this is from the Gutsy Live CD.
The command I ran (under su) was: lspci -vvnn > out.txt

OK, thanks, I actually did see that bug before reporting this one. My case differs from his/hers in that I'm running the live CD, not upgrading. Glad I could help. Should I download Gutsy beta and try that, or should I not bother?
