Bug Description

Original text from question 266540:
<quote>
Im experiencing some issues with layers. I cannot get a Blend Mode to stay set.
ex. I have layers 1 and 2 in my drawing.
layer 1 is set to Normal.
If I choose to set layer 2 to Multiply and then select layer 1 again, when I return to layer 2, the blend mode has been reset to Normal.
Anyone else seeing this?

Confirmed with Inkscape 0.91+devel r14119 on OS X 10.7.5.

Based on tests with archived builds:
- not reproduced with rev <= 14073,
- reproduced with rev >= 14076;
this regression seems to have been introduced with the recent merge of the SelContainer branch in r14074:

@Mc - any chance you could take a close look?

Additional detail: when changing the layer blend mode
* without a current selection (objects on canvas):
   no blend mode is added to the current layer
* with a current selection (objects on canvas):
   the blend mode is added to the selected objects instead of to the layer group

Another detail:
Setting layer blend modes in the 'Objects' dialog still works as expected (not affected by the regression). A layer blend mode set in the Objects dialog is also correctly selected/updated in the Layers dialog.
