Bug Description

Binary package hint: pidgin

I played with pidgin a very small amount, as suggested in wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Cases, and after closing its windows one by one I have managed to get it into a state where it won't start.

I select Applications / Internet / Pidgin Internet Messenger and I get "Starting ..." in my gnome window list bar for a while, and then it disappears. If I just type "pigdin" in a terminal window my prompt comes back immediately; there is a flicker of some kind of activity in the status area at the top of my default gnome desktop.

Could you please provide the following information:

- Which version of pidgin are you using?
- Which of plugins have you enabled in your configuration?
- The output of calling "pidgin -d from the terminal"

Thanks.

I don't have the version information to hand right now. The version of pigdin was from a beta CD or one of the dailies on 2007-09-26 and the configuration was entirely the default as shipped on that CD.

I'll see if I can find the relevant test installation.

You can get pidgin's version by typing "pidgin -v" in the console.
By the way, pidgin was recently updated in the gutsy repositories, maybe you could try the new version and report, if you still encounter the problem.

I am unable to reproduce this bug as describe above.

I am running the latest beta with all the updates (Pidgin 2.2.1)

I dug out the relevant test install and pidgin seems to work properly on it now, so I can't reproduce this I'm afraid.

I suspect that the situation was that there was a copy of pidgin running already but just without any windows open, in a state where asking for a new copy of pidgin doesn't have any effect. Is that possible ?

I'll see if I can reproduce it coherently during my ISO testing and if so I'll file a proper bug.

Seems i've the same problem.

After editing my configuration to force pidgin to use my privoxy socks server (localhost:9050), i was unable to launch it again.

Attached the Backtrace.

For information i've a silc account, an msn account and 3 ircs account configured with one using tlsv1.

There's the pidgins output :
flyers@laptop:~$ pidgin -v
Pidgin 2.5.1
flyers@laptop:~$ pidgin -d
