Bug Description

Binary package hint: compiz

Using compiz version 1:0.5.2+git20070918-0ubuntu5 I noticed that glxgears would not stay when another window is place on top of it.

Steps to reproduce:

1) turn on "normal" desktop effects
2) open a terminal
3) start glxgears
4) alt-tab to terminal
5) notice that glxgears still appears on top even though focus is on the terminal

There was also some odd flickering when holding alt+tab. A screenshot will be attached.

Upstream thinks this is a driver issue:

<maniac103> https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/144914 is a driver problem, too

Changed in compiz:
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Confirmed

To elaborate a bit more on this statement:
It's not a driver bug, but a known limitation of the AIGLX texture-from-pixmap implementations.
It's explained in Kristian Hoegsbergs excellent blog posting: http://hoegsberg.blogspot.com/2007/08/redirected-direct-rendering.html
