Bug Description

Binary package hint: bluez-gnome

the new bluex-gnome applet is great and lets you enable some services such as input, network, serial, audio.
A file (obex) service is missing, and the user must install gnome-bluetooth if he wants to send/receive files.
gnome-bluetooth is in universe and adds a further applet, so it's not the right thing in my opinion.
The best choice would be to integrate obex file service in bluez-gnome and add a service for files. moreover an integration with nautilus-sendto should be added.

This will happen. It is the plan to include it, but might not happen as quickly as you want.

Yes it has an option called "Receive files from remote devices". But without running gnome-obex-server, it doesn't work. While running it, it seems that the applet already register the server.

$ gnome-obex-server

** (gnome-obex-server:23243): WARNING **: OBEX server register error: -1

** (gnome-obex-server:23243): WARNING **: Unable to initialize OBEX source

** (gnome-obex-server:23243): WARNING **: Couldn't initialise OBEX listener

You don't need gnome-obex-server now for data transfer. There is another package obex-data-server which provides this functionality. It is main and installed by default, provided ubuntu-desktop is installed.

If that is not working for you please open another bug.

@Onkar Shinde,
Ok finally this is working without gnome-obex-server. I restart bluetooth-applet, bluetooth daemon, and replug the bluetooth dongle to get this working, but I don't remember exactly in which order.
So my trouble is just related to the fact that I pluged my dongle after starting the computer. I'll create a new bug after having done more tests about that.

I have done all the steps above, but I still need the gnome-obex-server in order to receive files on my PC, my phone is Nokia e61, and it always displays the "Sending Failed" message if the gnome-obex-server is not opened even if I enabled the "Receive files from remote devices" option in the Bluetooth applet and I even killed and re-ran the obex-data-server and restarted my PC several times, any ideas?

@aamr,

It's of no use adding comments to a bug in fix released state. Please file a new bug against obex-data-server with detailed steps to reproduce.
