Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.0 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I dont think this started happening after an update/upgrade. It was there in Ubuntu 3.16.0-33.44-generic (3.16.7-ckt7) as well. This is a new laptop I got less than a month back, as far as I can tell its always been there.

Log from previous kernel version with error:
https://launchpadlibrarian.net/202425253/BootDmesg.txt

Unfortunately I wont be able to test the mainline kernel for the next 2 weeks. I can give it a try after that.
