My laptop screen flashes off and on. Not sure what triggers it. It doesn't happen all the time.

Bug Description
I installed Elementary OS Freya based on Ubuntu 14.04. When I run the live disk off of a usb drive my screen constantly flashes on and off. I think it's a video driver bug or something. I installed Freya on my acer 5517 laptop and let it install all the latest updates. The off and on issue went away, but it still happens sometimes. I have to restart my laptop to fix the problem. This has never happened to me with any other version of Linux I've used. The last version of elementary based on Ubuntu 12.04 worked fine. and Ubuntu 14.04 worked fine too.
