Bug Description

Using Acer C720. The model is PEPPY C5A-R3E-A7B. I installed ChrUbuntu following these instructions:https://www.linux.com/learn/tutorials/764181-how-to-install-linux-on-an-acer-c720-chromebook

I cannot connect to the internet on the ubuntu computer, because of not having a trackpad and thus cannot send a bug report through the ubuntu-bug linux thing.

I followed this debugging guide: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingTouchpadDetection/evtest

and there is no input device called "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" or anything like that.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v4.0 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

Zane Hitchcox, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from kernel 3.16 to 4.0 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your release. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

I'm a humble web developer, but I can certainly try that. Unfortunately, I'm working on a Chromebook with 16GB of hard drive space and could not fit the linux git repository on my SSD, but I have a new one in the mail, and I will try when that comes.

Christopher M. Penalver (penalvch)

I've read through the instructions, but I don't really understand them. Am I basically just cloning the kernel, and then going back one commit at a time, installing the kernel, and then seeing if the trackpad works?
