Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. The plugins cube/rotate are intentionally not used because they would break workspace-layouts (actually "viewports" under compiz) with more than one row. As a replacement for cube/rotate we enable expo and wall. These two plugins allow users to reach an view all their workspaces/viewports no matter the workspace/viewport-layout they use.

Should you have a N:1 layout (you use just one row) you are able to savely use the plugins cube and rotate. For that make sure to install the package compizconfig-settings-manager and afterwards set the effects-level in the "Visual Effects"-tab to "Custom" in the appearance-manager (gnome-appearance-properties). Press the button "Properties" next to the "Custom"-radiobutton and select the plugins cube and rotate from the list in the dialog-window which opened.

Once the busy beta-days are over, I'll write a new plugin that will be able to replace cube/rotate, while correctly working with any N:M workspace/viewport-layout and keep the "cool looks" of the cube.

As there has been no activity on this and no plan by upstream to ever support this I am closing this bug.
