Bug Description

I am using Ubuntu 15.04 and booting with systemd. In most cases locking the screen works as expected but in certain cases the machine logs out instead. Can this be fixed?

It's very unlikely that this is related to systemd, as it's got nothing at all to do with handling the user session and screen locking. This is handled by unity. The most probable reason is that unity crashes when it's trying to lock the screen. When this happens, do you get a crash notification? Do you have anything in /var/crash/ ? Please also attach ~/.cache/upstart/unity7.log right after this happens. Thanks!

So my system had the issue again right after I posted comment #12. I see multiple crash reports in /var/crash, but this particular one was the file attached.

A logged out successfully once, then tried again and it crashed/logged out/whatever again afterwords.

This time there is a report from Chrome in /var/crash.

That report attached and my next comment will have unity7.log as requested above.

There are days when this happens many times and days where it does not happen at all. I may switch to gnome shell until this gets fixed.

I don't know if this information will help:

When I lock the laptop and it logs me out, and then I try and log back in, I have to log in twice. I get a login prompt on top of what looks like the system default background, then my desktop background loads, and then I log in again. It doesn't act like I entered the wrong password or anything (I'm not), it simply asks me to log in twice.

Anyhow, this bug is critical. I can't use my PC without locking in the workplace.
