Bug Description

I accidentally clicked "lock screen" while trying to get to system settings. Now I'm kicked out, and the only thing that shows is err... Nothing at all! Just a black screen. No mouse or anything else. By pressing ctrl+alt+f1 I can get to the terminal, but can't do much from there. Help would be much appreciated. (OS Freya 0.3 with latest updates installed today.)

Anyone...? I was hoping to find help sooner. I would really appreciate if someone could suggest me anything.

Things I've tried:
- edit grub and added nomodeset instead of quiet splash. Doesn't work.
- restart lighdtm. Doesn't work.
- purged nvidia*. Doesn't work.
- used linux 3.13.0-45-generic instead of default (3.13.0-48-generic). Using this I can get up to the login screen. Login screen shows, but after typing my password and hitting enter, the black screen kicks in again. But this time I can see the mouse.
