Bug Description

Binary package hint: mozilla-thunderbird

When saving attachments MOST of the time you choose a folder and all future attachments of the same type get saved into the same folder. However, some time the location arbitrarily changes to the next highest level folder or your home directory. If you are saving lots of attachments, this can be very annoying.

The whole save attachments code seems to be screwed up. First, Thunderbird does not remember the last place you were at when you exit and reopen, which would make sense. Second, when you go in to change directories, if you do not explicitly collapse the file view yourself, it stays open for all future downloads, which it didn't use to do. Third, it changes directories when you are saving different types of documents. If I have a picture, a document and a spreadsheet in one email, I am most likely going to want to save them to the same place; as Thunderbird is now, I have to change the location for each one. Finally, as I stated sometimes you will save fine for a while, then go to save and find Thunderbird has automatically, without your input, changed the save directory to someplace else (which seems to be the next highest and home directories). You then have to go back and move the files you just saved.

The save attachment feature should be made more consistent across the board. As it is now, it is embarrassing.
