Bug Description
Binary package hint: linux-source-2.6.22
This is related to bug #143958 "Gutsy Alternate fails: cannot detect and mount CD-ROM" since after working around that bug, this one occurs later in the install. I'm not sure if they are related or stand-alone.
After entering user-name and password the installer reports:
[!!] Install the base system
Debootstrap Error
Failed to determine the codename for the release
I saved the install logs onto the local disk, rebooted into Feisty and transferred them over to my primary laptop. The log shows:
main-menu[3246]: INFO: Menu item 'base-installer' selected
base-installer: error: exiting on error base-installer/
main-menu[3246]: WARNING **: Configuring 'base-installer' failed with error code 1

Gone through the same experience with an Acer Travelmate C104TCi. It also experiences bug #143958 starting from an external IEEE1394 DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. I correct that bug using the workaround and installation continues until this point, where I've been unable to find a workaround.
