Bug Description

Summary: Window snapping freezes the transparent red/orange background that is normally seen for only a short time when performing window snapping. To fix, open or restore focus to some other program, minimize that program, and return to the original program.

Reproduce:
(1) Open Firefox (in my case it opens maximized)
(2) Drag Firefox down by grabbing in the titlebar
(3) Drag Firefox back up to "snap maximize"
(4) Click the middle button on Firefox (maximize button)
(5) Drag Firefox up as if you wanted to "snap maximize"
(6) Release mouse when you are confident you have dragged the mouse up as far as it will go. Firefox cannot be interacted with. The transparent red/orange background is "frozen".
(7) To get rid of the red/orange background, open or restore focus to some other program, minimize that program, and return to Firefox.

Alternate Reproduce:
(1) Grab a window that is not "snap maximized"
(2) Drag the window up to "snap maximize" it
(3) The transparent red/orange background appears, and it is frozen
(4) See step #7 in the previous block.

This "Alternate" case is what I notice - the first set of steps was a way to get it to reproduce consistently. I don't actually work that way :-)

I saw this bug report, but it doesn't specifically mention what I've noticed.

Regarding a screenshot, taking one with mate-screenshot removes the red background before it can capture the picture. I tried with a camera but it doesn't really show up enough to see it.

So far I have not noticed this in the same way with Ubuntu Mate 15.04 Beta 1 in the latest version of Virtualbox, and cannot reproduce it with the steps above. When grabbing a window to "snap maximize" it looks like it first renders it unmaximized, then you see the green background, and when you release the button after the "snap maximize" the green background goes away and the window is maximized. As you would expect.

However, I was playing around with the terminal window in UM15.04-B1. 3 successive clicks in the title bar to maximize/unmaximize, and the green background for window snapping freezes. When my mouse is moved over top of the minimized program icons/rectangles in a bottom tray, the green background goes away. Moving the mouse into the top panel accomplishes this, as well as moving it to a bottom panel and returning the mouse to over the terminal. See attached screenshot.

All this from the original post - no longer see the green background appear to indicate window snapping in 15.04 MATE Beta 2. Which I think it is good because it is much cleaner looking and acting.

Also cannot reproduce on MATE RC 20150417 either. So it may be unique to 14.04.

Compiz for Ubuntu MATE 14.04 was recently updated. Is this issue still present?

It is still present in 14.04. All I have to do is do steps 1-3 without letting off the left mouse button and it does it every time.

And I'm using Marco not Compiz, that was why I chose marco.

It used to not happen in 15.04, now it started. Frozen screen showing at full screen at times, and half-screen snapping at other times. It is intermittent.

I'm using the MATE PPA http://ppa.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate-dev/ppa/ubuntu/ with Ubuntu 12.04.5, and get the same issue, so I'm not sure it's related to specific versions of Ubuntu. If there are any suitable packages for me to report on versions for, Id be happy to do so.
