Screen not dimmed after period of inactivity.

Sooner or later, the screen stops getting dimmed after a set period of inactivity; only a reboot solves this.
As a result, the implied request for password upon screen dim doesn't take place, either

eezacque, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Z97PROWiFi_ac/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (2205). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

This BIOS upgrade implements 5th-Generation Intel Core Processors code, supports ASUS USB 3.1 PCIE add-on card
and support NVMe, and doesn't seem to improve overall stability. I believe it is unlikely this upgrade will solve my problem, but I will install it, nevertheless...
