Bug Description

Click packages that have both a main scope and a helper app don't show up as Scopes in the app store, but instead they show up as apps. Eg: untappd scope.

Also, after installation they show the "Open" button to start the helper app, instead of the "Search" button to show the scope.

I'd like to point out one thing: if a click package consists of more than one items (be it a scope, app, online accounts plugin, whatnot), it's something that users might not understand.

"I installed just one app, why do I have two?"

"I uninstalled the scope, where did my app go?"

What is the use case we're solving for bundling multiple entities within the same click package?

The use case for having a scope and an app from the same package is simplifying the process of installing closely related components. Eg: the untappd scope, which also installs a helper webapp. This is already well supported, and there are several packages in the store already that have both a scope and an app.

The bug here is that all of those packages show up in the store as apps, when it might more sense for some of them to show up as scopes.

Installing two apps from the same package would be for something like a camera app that also installs a gallery app, but there are many places we'd have to fix in order for this to work in a decent way.

As I already explained on the mailing list, it would in my opinion make sense to let the developer choose whether it should be shown as an app or a scope.

That is indeed the plan of record.

This is part of a bigger redesign across different projects. The required resolution for this bug is ‘paused' while we await the outcome of ongoing discussions regarding the 'Scopes as apps' direction.
