Bug Description

Previous version of Files in elementary Luna gave a (reasonable) warning when an element was deleted using Shift+Del.

I see no such warning in Freya. Is this by design? If such, it's a very bad idea.

I've just tried this with the current trunk and I get a warning OK. It certainly wasn't intended not to have one.

Please can you give more detail regarding which version you are using, what you are deleting etc.

GIve me until monday, I don't have my laptop with me right now. Any particular tests I should try?

OK, just tried again.

Created empty 'test' file and folder, deleted them with Shift+Del and got no warning, they were just gone.

I know the command is working because if I just use 'Del' I can bring the file/folder back with Ctrl+z, but I can't after using Shift+Del.

I attach a screenshot of the 'About' section of my system. Let me know what else I can share to help debug this.

Relevant: this is the Beta 2 fully updated BTW.

Thanks for the additional information. I'll check the code to see whether there are circumstances this could occur. Can you say whether you are deleting local, native files or perhaps files on a file system that does not support trash?

Mmm not sure what you mean by that. This is an ext4 formatted SSD and as far as I can tell the trash bin works just fine.

I do notice a little lock icon on the bottom right of each folder/file in the trash bin that I don't recall seeing in Luna. Could be wrong though.

OK, I think I may have found a potential reason - do you have no mounted volumes under Devices in the sidebar? This should only cause the warning to be suppressed in Trash but it appears there may be a bug causing it to be suppressed everywhere. Since I have mounted volumes I always get the warning.

(Sorry for the late response) I can confirm the bug is gone now, I can see a warning when Shit+Del is used on a file.

Not sure how to report my version of elementary, since I have the Beta 2 version of Freya fully updated. Is this now Freya 0.3 or should I still call it Freya Beta 2?

The version of Files in Freya is Files 0.2. Files 0.3 will be in Loki. As Freya is now released I guess you just refer to it as "Freya".
