Bug Description

Hello. I installed Ubuntu 14.04.2 64-bit edition on a brand new Toshiba c75d-b7215 laptop about 2 days ago. The laptop itself is dual-booting with Windows 8.1, and the Windows partition appears to look OK (haven't really spent that much time in it, though). I followed the Easy Linux Tips guide (https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/) for optimizing Ubuntu.

However, my laptop keeps restarting itself quite randomly. For example, I can have about 10 tabs open on Chrome 64-bit edition, and LibreOffice open, and then my laptop will restart itself. I don't know whether or not this is a hardware issue or a Ubuntu issue. I would like to know soon, because I have about 10 days to decide whether or not I need to return this laptop and replace it with something else. Thank you.

More info is needed.... Please install inxi ("sudo apt-get install inxi").

Then make the terminal fullscreen, in order to avoid chopped lines.

Then execute this command: inxi -Fxz
(note that the F is a capital letter)

Press Enter.

Post the output in your answer.

Two things I'd try:

1. install the non-free closed proprietary driver for your video card. For that, use Software & Updates, tab Additional Drivers;

2. apply a BIOS update (check the support section of the Toshiba website for that).

Thanks for your response. With those solutions,:

1.) This keeps failing on me, so I filed an additional bug report about it (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1432164), as encouraged by this guide (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BinaryDriverHowto/AMD).

2.) I did this, and so far, so good for the light web browsing I'm doing. Hopefully it doesn't crash on me again.
