When launcher hides it can't be brought back

Bug Description
I am using Ubuntu 14.04 and when I tried to upgrade unity it said I already have the latest version.
When I set launcher to hide, and come back if you either click/ mouse over upper left corner, or left side, the launcher cannot be made to come back. Pressing the super button causes it to appear butnot without also covering the entire screen with that big old search thingy. I played with teh sensitivity and that made no difference. The instructions don't say whether you're supposed to click or mouse over to get the launcher to come back but neither works.
I understand there was recently a bug where the launcher wouldn't hide. I guess now it doesn't come back!
I can't get either Unity or the classic menu indicator to tell me a version number, but it did tell me I already have the most recent version when I tried to update Unity.
Maybe you need to unhide the version information as well.
