Ubuntu 14.10 install crashes when trying to install GRUB onto a RAID 0 volume.

Is it just presumed home users still don't use RAID volumes? Come on Canonical... Your major user base is programmers. Most of us are also technology enthusiasts. It's not difficult to port this feature from your server distro.
