Typing text outside rectangle selection displays background but no text

Bug Description
Pinta dev 1.6.0.110 on Ubuntu 14.04.
1. Rectangle Select and mark some area on canvas.
2. Text and click on canvas in area OUTSIDE of rectangle selected area from step 1.
3. Type some text. It appears red dashed rectangle but with no text. If I understand it was designed to not have any action outside of selection, but in this case I think the red dashed rectangle should also not appear - now it looks like some strange bug, typing and no text.
