Galen Thurber, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1424864

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

apport is also unstable due to the recent changes in firefox36 that block usage of the -remote CLI

this is due to FF36 changes

3.2.0-76 has yet to experience a problem. I will keep testing -76 but -77 is hopeless

this is major bug for me

to review
apport-collect -p xorg 1424864
will NOT work is because of changes in firefox36's refusal to open URL from other apps.

Galen Thurber, just to advise, this report is scoped to how xorg crashes, not how your kernel isn't working.

If you have a kernel problem, please boot into a live environment via http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and then file a new report via a terminal:
ubuntu-bug linux

Please feel free to subscribe me to it.

Regarding your apport-collect not working out, I just used Firefox 36 successfully with apport in Utopic. Hence, please boot into a live environment and then perform the apport-collect.

apport-collect does not work for current vivid

Linux ubuntu 3.19.0-7-generic #7-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 26 20:19:34 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ apport-collect
You need to run 'sudo apt-get install python-apport' for apport-collect to work.
ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ apport-bug

firefox 36.0.1 now allows -remote url to work once again, allowing reports etc..

Galen Thurber, the last apport-collect did not attach the requested information, due to how you either don't have xdiagnose installed, or you didn't click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.
