Bug Description
When you install Skype (it does not matter if you do it from repository or download from website) it will pull number of dependencies and one can easily miss message about elementary-desktop being removed.
The real problem begins when you do apt-get autoremove. It will remove complete networking and many other programs making Freya ready for reinstall.
The remedy is to reinstall elementary-desktop right after installing Skype. Removing elementary-desktop should not make bunch of core and very important apps "not needed any more", like complete networking stack.

When you install play on linux, it also want to uninstall elementary-desktop. This is a serious bug and it affects many programs.
