inkscape have memory hungry

I'm using Linux Mint 17.1 64b (based on Ubuntu 14.04) with an NVIDIA GeForceGTX 650 (driver 331.113) with a resolution of 1280x1024 pixels and a depth of 24b (X version 11.0).

I update inkscape from v.48.4 to v.91.0 through the official PPA and notice that the new version is loaded faster but when working with a file the memory used by the software explodes and is inmpracticable to edit the file handily because it slows very much the system.

I have make a comparison of memory usage and take a serie of screenshots to show you.

Sorry not to test before, Inkscape works well on other files I have.
It seems a problem with the file so I remove all extra layers and objects to shrink the lace to the problematic part.
I get this 100kb file with the problem. Also, it depends on the zoom and while you are rendering that the memory explodes.

Confirmed on Crunchbang Waldorf, Inkscape trunk revision 13904.
The file uses lots of memory (3 Gio when loaded full screen).

I have also noticed that selecting all the object and ungrouping twice (with Ctrl+U) crashes the application.

Performance regression reproduced with Inkscape 0.91 r13725 and 0.91+devel r13904 on OS X 10.7.5. The same file opens quickly and without excessive memory usage in 0.48.5.

I just wanted to confirm that I was also experiencing this issue with inkscape 0.91, both on ubuntu 15.04 and windows with the official installer. I have a 170kb SVG file generated by matplotlib that caused inkscape to ramp up to 1.6gb memory usage, at which point my laptop (2gb memory) would be completely frozen.

I compiled the latest devel version pulled from BZR and the issue is fixed (thanks devs). Hopefully the fixed version will be released to the ubuntu repos soon enough.

Confirmed independently with trunk builds on OS X 10.7.5.

Based on tests with archived builds:
- reproduced with rev <= 13964,
- not reproduced with rev >= 13968;
the regression seems to have been solved with r13966:
