Bug Description

With nvidia 331.113 or 346.59 after configuring dual screen layout via System Tools > Settings > Displays, sometimes both screens are on the same monitor and it scrolls sideways.

However, if I remove this manually configured layout it fails (in what way?).

With nvidia 304 my second monitor stopped working.

WORKAROUND: Use nouveau. However, nvidia out performs it.

WORKAROUND: Use GNOME Flashback (Metacity).

Morten Hundevad, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If so, could you please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg 1417826

Please ensure you have xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for attaching additional debugging information.

As well, given the information from the prior release is already available, testing a release prior to the development one would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

To manually definitely dual screen layout, if I remove this manually configured layout it fails. Constant.

With fix in place I sometimes get odd behavior where both screens are on the same monitor and it scrolls sideways. (this could of cause be error in my manually config method)

Do this awnser you'r question?

Not sure how to recreate it. I am using default system.

I have not installed many extra things other than few php and android developing tools and play on linux and steam and things of that nature.

compizconfig -> general -> display settings -> Register output

by default this is checked (detect_outputs)

if i check this then the error happens where monitor 1 and two "over lap". and appear as one.

I have to manually configure outputs

tested 346 same thing

after then trying 304 my second monitor no totaly stopped working.

Morten Hundevad, a few questions:

+ With nouveau, despite the performance degradation, and mouse streaking, is the originally reported issue still occurring > "sometimes both screens are on the same monitor and it scrolls sideways"?
+ When you disable the discrete card (you have both a discrete and integrated) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bumblebee does this provide a WORKAROUND?

You can see the cursor is on both monitor, and the left monitor scrolls sideways to also display right monitor content on the left.

------------------------------GOME TEST NOTES--------------------------------------
Error did not happen in gnome, but i now remember why i cant use gnome.

If a move window to laptop monitor and try to maximize it it will be moved to left monitor and be large there. (Same thing go for flash and games and video in full screen) get get it ti sick on "Right monitor"

If monitor's position is switched position of the problem is also switched. (meaning that full screen is ALWAYS left regardless if it is build in monitor or external in that location.)

well i did what you asked and tried GNOME Flashback (compiz) and the error is kind of also there. not excactly the same but very similar.

Now after switching back to unity every thing is foo baa and i cant make it work again (SIDE WAYS SCROLLING ISSUE, is now constant even after several reboots) =( . i have tried to reset compiz to no change.

i have taken some screen shots showing another strange behavior that may or may not be relevant.

So i must have changed something else i forgot.

So to sum up

i now have constant scrolling side ways behavior.

Is there anything more info i can provide. this issue is really a pain in the behind =(
