Bug Description

---Problem Description---
I've seen a minor problem on multiple systems. The problem occurs while installing the 'lsvpd' package and its pre-reqs.

I'm afraid I don't have an actual cut-n-paste of the problem, but it's more or less:

$ sudo apt-get install lsvpd
...
The following extra packages will be installed:
  libsgutils2-2 libvpd-2.2-2
Suggested packages:
  sg3-utils
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  libsgutils2-2 libvpd-2.2-2 lsvpd
...
Setting up libsgutils2-2 (1.38-1) ...
Setting up libvpd-2.2-2 (2.2.3-0ubuntu2) ...
Setting up lsvpd (1.7.4-0ubuntu3) ...
sh: 1: "(" unexpected <<==
...

That is, we see a syntax complaint from the shell while setting up lsvpd. The problem doesn't reproduce if I remove those same packages (even with purge) and re-install. I've only seen it when doing the initial install of lsvpd.

I don't see any shell code in the lsvpd package's postinst script that could cause this, so I'm kind of at a loss.

I'm no longer able to create this on any of my systems, because I've already installed lspvd on all of them (and we're running in PowerNV mode, so doing a fresh install would mean clobbering systems that are in use for other purposes).

I don't see any fallout from the error--the package seems to install fine otherwise, and the tools (at least 'lsmcode') work fine afterwards.

---uname output---
Linux io186 3.16.0-16-generic #22-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 17 18:45:43 UTC 2014 ppc64le ppc64le ppc64le GNU/Linux

Machine Type = 8286-42A

---Steps to Reproduce---
 $ sudo apt-get install lsvpd

Install method: DVD

Install ISO Information: Utopic Server ISO from Aug/Sep

Userspace tool common name: lsvpd

Userspace package: lsvpd_1.7.4-0ubuntu3_ppc64el.deb

Install disk info: /dev/sda2, SAS (ipr)

Problem occurs on 14.04 and 14.10.

Patch that fixes the issue is attached.

It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.
