Bug Description

virtualbox-guest-x11 depends on xorg-video-abi-11 which is provided by xserver-xorg-core-2.11.* when recent updates includes xorg-server-2.15 which leads to impossibility of installing virtualbox-guest-x11 in precise.

Please rebuild the virtualbox-guest-x11 with recent X11 API.

yep, you are right, I've received xserver-xorg-core-lts-trusty with updates and haven't noticed it...
If you think that it is not a bug and the only way to use the virtualbox additions is to use old xorg-server and it is as it should be than feel free to close the bug...

Don't really know... we can't rebuild it on top of both versions... feel free to ask on ubuntu-devel mail list or irc and report back!

Thanks for reply, I'll contact the maillist a bit later... As I see it now the reasonable way to resolve this is to use the same strategy for it as for other x11 drivers (create additional packages like virtualbox-guest-x11-preciese etc) but I have some doubts about if it will be supported because package is belong to multiverse. Also I doubt a bit how this will be implemented (is it possible to rebuild only the x11 part of the vbox additions?).

Precise and Trusty point releases are pretty awkward to use in VirtualBox because of this.

A simple workaround: "sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-core virtualbox-guest-x11" will downgrade to the original X stack and install the VirtualBox guest drivers

In #1424769 I provided a backport of virtualbox on my ppa, rebuild on top of the -lts-utopic stack.

I'll ask in the next few days if I can have a virtualbox-lts-utopic upload.
