all tooltip popups show up as block boxes

Bug Description
I've been using gutsy since tribe 3, apt-getting each day, and I never had any problems with the tooltip popups before. After last update; now all my tooltips show up as saolid black boxes (maybe it's black text on black background, not sure). In the same update you fixed a bunch of other bugs relating to my graphics card though.
Steps to repro:
1. Open "Places" menu
2. Hover mouse over the "Home holder" menu item
3. A solid black box appears instead of a popup tooltip
