Bug Description
Binary package hint: compiz
My normal workflow is to have 4 workspaces laid out in a line horizontally. I switch between them _a lot_. I have keybinds setup to switch between desktops. This workflow works fine with metacity. Unfortunately, with compiz as setup in gutsy right now, it's not feasible. The problem is the workspace switch animation is too slow and insists on scrolling past all intervening screens, so if I go from workspace 1 to workspace 4, I have to watch it scroll past 2 and 3 too. This simply takes too long and breaks my work flow.
I think ideally, I'd prefer it if we could turn the animation off entirely if the workspace switch is triggered by a key binding.

I agree with that, people having special keybinding to switch to "workspace n" usually switch a lot and need that to be efficient. Having the animation probably makes sense when you use ctrl-alt-arrows and when you click on the workspace switcher but keybinding actions should be quick
