After talking to Omer in IRC it looks like indicator- datetime- service is not exporting anything for Unity8 to find when Omer hits this.
I haven't been able to reproduce this yet but with a little effort we can get a debug log of indicator-datetime from the phone:
1. phablet-config the phone to writable mode upstart/ sessions/ indicator- datetime. conf to add this line (without quotes) before the exec line: "G_MESSAGES_ DEBUG=all"
2. once the phone is writable, edit /usr/share/
3. settings > reset phone > erase & restart everything
4. then ~/.cache/upstart/ should have a debug log of indicator-datetime from the session that follows the restart
