Bug Description

I attach a screenshot for explanation.

Having used Search and Launch with my own configuration, the shortcuts have always been in the upper part of the screen; and I have never found a knob to change the size of the reserved region for the shortcuts.
Recently, I have added a second monitor and since then the geometry has changed significantly. Now a larger, upper, part contains the shortcuts, while the originally larger screen estate for the menus is only visible as a single row at the bottom.

I am not sure if this a bug. It would be, if there was no way to reallocate the separation of the screen of Search and Launch.
A work-around would also be welcome!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1414988/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Okay, one more observation:
The whole thing can be rectified, post-login, by turning that external secondary monitor (the 'star'ed one with the menu on it) off. then all windows automatically pop back to the build-in monitor, then turning that external monitor off in the 'Display and Monitor' in 'System Settings' by removing the tick on that monitor, 'apply', adding back that tick, 'star'ing it again (to indicate that it should carry the menu), 'apply'.
Then the geometry is as expected.
From all this, I dare to suspect that the trouble comes in through the timing(s) at logon. It looks like everything is okay, when the external display comes up after the build-in one, gets activated, and then receives the menu.
