gschem fails with opaque message when trying to open a pcb layout

If gschem tries to open a layout file a dialog opens with this message:

An error occurred while loading the requested file.

Loading from '/home/kmk/Projekte/PID-Regler/PIDkmk/pidkmk.pcb' failed: Read garbage in [/home/kmk/Projekte/PID-Regler/PIDkmk/pidkmk.pcb] :

This is not very newbie friendly.

Suggestions:
# Change the wording to suggest that the file may not be a geda schematic.
# Give a hint where the log file is to be found. It usually hides in ~/.gEDA/logs/gschem-****.log .
