Bug Description

I have installed indicator-applet and have set to show cpu, memory, net and hard disk usage graphs. But from past week or two, I am also getting a text beside them. I did not change any settings. I wonder why it has started showing text as well. I have attached a screenshot to show what I am talking about.

Hi aveem,

Thanks for the bug report. Although it is a feature (a badly designed one), not a bug :-)

You can use the scroll wheel on top of the indicator to change what text is displayed.

Michael

Changed in indicator-multiload:

Thanks. I was about to report the same. It seems that a new feature is added and as a preview, it is being displayed as default. After I have deleted all the items in the indicator options, the text disappeared. A useful feature, but eats away a lot of space on the top bar. Useful only on desktops. On laptops, it eats away way too much space.

Good thing I found this. On my machine it displayed the top most entry (cpu) but cut the first and last of my 4 graphs.

I could also not find any mention of this feature anywhere. Who thought it would be a good idea to just throw that out there?

Otherwise great piece of software. Thanks for continuingly improving it.

Chipping in here that I found this bug report (and solution) while trying to figure out how and why to remove the text that inexplicably appeared after logging in one day. Spent several minutes searching through the gui looking to disable it before coming here.

I actually welcome the text feature. I came here hoping to find a way to display text for each or all of the displayed indicators instead of the graphs. Hopefully that will be an implemented option in future versions since text is more informative than graphs.

Thanks for the info provided on this. I have used indicator-multiload for years without realizing there was a way to show the information on the graphs as text. Simply scrolling with mouse over it will change which text is displayed.

It's pretty confusing. I wanted it gone, and I don't know exactly what I did and is not there anymore.
While it was, the changes in text length (e.g. changing from 1 to 2 digit CPU load) would shift the graphs and all indicators to the left all around. Very annoying.

Today something changed at my system and the text appeared on indicator.

At first I tried to fiddle thru the settings but nothing seemed to hide such text. Also I've found the empty line in the indicators menu quite surprising, and at first I thought that that might be the issue.. so I removed that line.

Then I went to dconf but also nothing caught my attention there, so I search on the web and after reading your comments here I'm with a full understanding about how to remove such text using the mouse wheel (with the empty indicator trick added) and I can see how the `indicator-expression-index` works .. but still makes me wonder if there's something we could do to improve the current UI.

The empty indicator trick could be replaced with something else less .. hacky. How about using any value < 0 to indicate "disable text indicators"

Also the UI could use a dropdown or a boolean option, to enable users switching that option from the settings.
