Super+Space key shortcut for Unity's launcher not always works

Bug Description

When using the <Super>+Space key shortcut to "show the launcher" of Unity, sometimes I need to press several times the key combination to get the desired action.

I've changed the default key shortcut using the "Unity Tweak Tool". If I use <Super>+"R"key the shortcut always works the first time.

I've had this problem during a year, first with 13.10 and now with 14.04 LTS.

I am on 14.10 and had some additional problems

<Super>Space works ~50% of the time
<Super>Escape does not work at all
XF86Search (Special Key) gets launcher stuck into permanent 'Shortcut Hints Overlay'

I've observed that <Super>+Space actually works when space is pressed very rapidly after <Super>. The delay must not exceed roughly half a second.
