This code have been move to greeterbackground.c. "greeter_background_save_xroot()" used to save background:

This line was accidentally deleted in 1.8.6 and restored in 1.9.0

The current package in vivid is rather old and produces this glitch. Therefore, I have installed the package from the daily PPA (2014-12-13) and it works fine.

From ppa https://code.launchpad.net/~kalgasnik/+archive/ubuntu/lightdm-gtk-greeter-background-transition does NOT fix the bug for me, the background is never saved. I'll try building from source again tomorrow.

Actually all three of those work - I had xfwm built without MONITOR_ROOT_PIXMAP.

However, the https://launchpad.net/~lightdm-gtk-greeter-team/+archive/ubuntu/daily doesn't seem to work.
