Nemo freezes on Download folder

The file manager keeps loading, but eventually it just freezes without completing the process. To re-use the program, it's necessary to kill the process and restart it. It seems that the issue happens and repeats only with that particular folder.

I have the same problem with Linux Mint 19.1.

I found that I had a malformed pdf file in the Downloads folder. It had a very long filename that did not make sense. I used the terminal to mv it to the tmp folder. Nemo then worked on Downloads but not on tmp. I rm'd the suspect file and everything worked properly again. I do not know what was wrong with the strange file.
