I have not seen this since I fixed the refraction bug, and doubt this has been introduced by tweaking an altitude angle by a few arcseconds, but have seen some "brightness pumping" a few times before, last year, under rare circumstances, it always vanished promptly when I changed the view direction. I guess this is something in balancing eye glare (SkyDrawer?). Do you see it all the time? then please version (Angle/OpenGL, is there a difference?) etc, can you really reproduce it only since r7261 or also before? Or if it happens not all the time, how to replay it: date/time, location?

I can't reproduce it at r7260 - only since r7261. I'm use Linux with nvidia GPU:

aw@fomalhaut:~$ lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF116 [GeForce GTX 550 Ti] (rev a1)

Part of the log:
Detected: OpenGL "4.4"
Driver version string: "4.4.0 NVIDIA 343.36"
GL vendor is "NVIDIA Corporation"
GL renderer is "GeForce GTX 550 Ti/PCIe/SSE2"
GL Shading Language version is "4.40 NVIDIA via Cg compiler"
GLSL Version Number after parsing: 4.4
GLSL version is fine, we should not see a graphics problem.

I can reproduce it on any location when time is not stopped. Seems it's permanent artifact.

Strange. OK, I am building on my older PC now for a second test. Will
report later.

Argh, you are right. I was referring to another (minor) problem. I'll have a look if the double->real speedup attempt is the culprit for this fast flickering.

No, it persists :-( This is very weird, this is supposed to change altitude, not brightness.

Sorry, we can only revert to the old, buggy solution for now, and keep refraction bug for 0.13.2. Really out of ideas on this for now.

r7295 has a new attempt on refraction which does not show this issue.
