Bug Description
Unable to log in with lightdm
This is a bug report against an up-to-date version of (k)ubuntu 14.10/utopic. The issue seems to have been triggered by ubuntu updates between 23.12.2014 and 07.01.2015 (today).
I'm unable to log in with lightdm. No matter what user, and I also tried guest. However I'm able to log on a (non-graphical) console/vt (i.e. without X).
I found the following in /var/log/
QInotifyFileSys
QFileSystemWatcher: failed to add paths: /var/lib/
Bus::open: Can not get ibus-daemon's address.
IBusInputContex
QDBusError(

Hence the bug maybe releated to some ibus, dbus, systemd and/or upstart problem. But I don't care. This is the most severe problem for me in Ubuntu for nearly 10 years.

Can you please elaborate on what "unable to log in" means, i.e. what happens? Does the computer freeze, or are you taken back to the login screen?
Also, can you please let us know the contents of ~/.xsession-errors and ~/.xsession- errors. old when you log in via console right after a failed attempt at a graphical login.
