Bug Description

Hello,

Reporting bugs of samba under Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS and Ubuntu-Mate 14.04.1 LTS.

Samba cannot share any files/folder accross the LAN.

When I try map it as a drive from a Windows PC, under "Workgroup", I could only found a "blank name" shared computer without containing any directory inside it.

When I check whether from Caja File Manager or from Nautilus File Manager, I could only find "freak" share computer by the name "samba-server-" (please see screenshot attachment), and when I try to open such shared PC named "samba-server-" it then causes Caja or either Nautilus seemed fall under infinitive loop until crash.

Here the following content of smb.conf on my laptop:

[global]
workgroup = WORKGROUP
server string = ubuntu-mate
netbios name = ubuntu-mate-1404
security = user
map to guest = bad user
name resolve order = bcast host
dns proxy = no

[Ubuntu-Mate Home]
path = /home/ubuntu-mate
browsable = yes
writable = yes
guest ok = yes
read only = no

Note:
With under Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and Elementary-OS Luna, it just OK, I can share file/folders easy via samba and easy to be mapped as a network drive by with a Windows PC.

This error also happens with Xubuntu 14.04.1 LTS, except without causing crash Thunar File Manager.

Regards,

Just a quick note to say I have encountered this same bug reported by Heru above.

For info I have two existing 14.04 servers both configured with Samaba shares in the same workgroup and have been working fine for quite some time.

I added another 14.04.01 server today and configured a Samba share. As soon as I restarted smbd and nmbd on the new server (after making the changes to the smb.conf file), my existing Samba shares became unavailable and like Herun reported above I could then see "samba-server-" showing on my network.

If I attemtped to access the workgroup from 'Files' on my 14.04.01 desktop the window crashes / closes.

I then stopped smbd and nmbd on my new server and then the existing servers Samba shares were then available.

Kind Regards

Stephen
