'sudo apt-get install nvidia-331-updates' installed/compiled fine for original kernel 3.13.0-32 in 64-bit 14.04.1 fresh install (my GTX 750 Ti was not support by the very old 304 driver of nvidia-current). Compiling the nvidia module threw an error while updating kernel to 3.13.0-43 (with system updater). But everything seems to work and I am running the new kernel as you can see from uname above. So not sure what the problem was
