Bug Description
When I open the terminal, I am presented with a blank white screen, occasionally with a black flashing cursor. Any text I type does not appear, although the commands appear to be passed properly (if I type "exit" the window will close). Menu bars are visible but to not respond to clicking. The width of this window varies from a small square in the upper corner to a very short window that is wider than my screen. Often window borders do not display either. Disabling desktop effects does not have any effect. This problem first appeared after the set of updates released the evening of 9/17 - it was still working properly after the updates in the morning. This does not appear to be restricted to gnome-terminal - I launched the kde konsole program from gnome with the same result.
