On resume, screen is blank instead of prompting for password

Bug Description

I have my system configured to lock when resuming from suspend. When the system
resumes, the screen is black and I need to press a key to get the password box.
I don't know if this is an issue with xscreensaver not being aware of acpi
events, or of the acpi-support tools for not sending a wakeup call to xscreensaver.

The end result being that people press the power button to resume, see their
screen is still black, and press the power button again (shutting down their
system). Of course, you learn after after a few goes that it takes two button
presses to wake your system instead of one but it is still a (minor) issue.

   * Ifrename on resume so our interfaces are called the same. (Ubuntu: #7480)
   * call xscreensaver-command -deactivate so we get a dialog rather than a
blank screen when we resume. (Ubuntu: #7717)
   * Don't clobber LIDSTATE when we mean POWERSTATE (Ubuntu: #8258)
   * Background the acpid lock removal

I am using breezy on a Inspiron 9300. I have all the latest updates. I
experienced the exact same problem the other user pointed out. For a while I
thought my standby button was not functioning as intended and I had no way of
knowing how to wake up my machine. I accidentally found out that I had to press
the power button twice, followed by any key to get the password box. Just wanted
to confirm that I found this same bug.

thanks.

I had the same problem in Kubuntu Edgy and now on Feisty. I have to press a key or move the mouse to get the password dialog.
Whenever somebody else than me open my notebook (which wakes it up from suspend) they press the power button after a while because it looks like it is not powered on.
Also, it would be nice if there was some on-screen indication that the machine is waking up, even before the password dialog shows up (which can take a dozen seconds).
