Bug Description

If I change the cursor in the Appearance program the cursor theme only applies to GTK+/Gnome programs. When I move the cursor to a Qt program it immediately switches to the standard theme. But then switches again if I move back to Gtk+/Gnome windows.

Is there any update on your issue? What Ubuntu are you using?

In Ubuntu 8.04 I set the cursor to DMZ-Black. And then I run lyx, which uses Qt. After lyx starts, the cursor resets to te default cursor. I looked the theme and it says it's still DMZ-Black but it isn't. Anyway, I set the cursor to show DMZ-Black again but moving the pointer to the lyx application the cursor changes to default again and back to DMZ-Black if I leave the lyx window.

Is this still a problem in Kubuntu 9.10 or 9.04?

For someone looking for a solution to this, run kde configuration(systemconfig or kde-config) and change mouse pointer theme there and it will take affect for qt apps.

I'm having this problem in Ubuntu 10.04. It appears in the program Anki, which uses QT. I think I've installed this version from the author's website.

I've tried to run "kde-config" and "kde4-config", but they don't output anything. I cannot find any "systemconfig" program.

Please let me know, if I can provide some useful information. Thank you.

I was able to partially work around this:

1. open KDE's systemsettings app
2. select "Keyboard & Mouse" > Mouse > Cursor Theme
3. select a DIFFERENT cursor than the current (desired) one
4. click Apply
5. re-select the desired theme
6. click Apply again

I'm using the DMZ (Black) GNOME theme, if that's relevant.

It's possible the bug is with:

A) how that cursor theme's content is laid out
B) the instantiation of GNOME cursor themes in KDE's settings
C) incomplete instantiation of GNOME cursor themes in KDE's settings (even with the above workaround I still see the KDE Oxygen cursor theme's "busy" art when a Qt application is busy)
D) the process for installing or upgrading any of the involved packages (this install of Lucid was upgraded from Karmic and so on a few versions back, not a fresh install)

Hope this helps.

I had the same problem, then i found out it could be fixed by simply doing:
sudo update-alternatives --config x-cursor-theme
