[HP Pavilion dv8t-1200 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC] Missing Mouse-Cursor After Login

In the last couple of weeks, I've experienced problems (off and on), where after logging into the Unity desktop, I do not have a mouse-cursor.

When this happens, with the intention of rebooting, I hit ctrl-alt-delete. This produces a dialog that allows me to logout (but does not provide an option to reboot my machine). If I logout, and then log back in, the mouse-cursor still remains missing. However, if I this ctrl-alt-t, and type sudo reboot, after rebooting the mouse cursor beings to appear again.

I never experienced this behavior in Ubuntu 14.04 until the last two weeks or so. So it seems some recent package upgrade (via Ubuntu Software Updater) is the culprit.

Lonnie Lee Best, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Could you please advise which update specifically caused this regression (linux, xorg, etc.)?

I have not had this happen again recently. It seems there was a nvidia video driver update shortly after I originally reported this, and I think that it may have fixed the issue. I'll report back here if I experience this further.
