3) What is expected to happen is when one prints the following file https://launchpadlibrarian.net/193467180/kalender-2014-querformat-4-seiten.pdf it does so successfully.

4) What happens instead is one sees blank pages printing to a physical printer, or printing to PostScript, and reopening in either gv or evince.

WORAKROUND: Sending the same file directly to the printer using "lpr" works fine.

WORKAROUND: Use Firefox's built-in PDF viewer to print.

This affects me as well with most PDFs, except for the test.pdf I just attached (that I created with "print to file" from gedit).

If I "print to file" and choose PDF, the new document looks fine as well (but still won't print)

If I "print to file" and choose PS, the new document is blank.

There is a workaround that works for me: Select "preview" instead of print from the print dialog, from the print preview window, click the printer icon (though if you have multiple printers, that probably won't select the correct one).

Just for clarity, all my comments about not working examples are in reference to normal PDFs such as the kalendar pdf in the OP...
The test.pdf I attached is the only working pdf I've found.

Evince prints empty pages endlessly, even throught a print preview. It's a very critical bug.
I have to use XPDF but with this program you can't manage printing for A3 paper, for instance.

I hope this comments helps.
I have evince installed on Windows 8.1 and it prints blank pages on my network printer.

printer: Samsung ML-3470 Series PCL6 Class Driver (Kopie 1)
When I print the PDFs on this windows PDF app called "Reader" all works fine.

The weird thing:
The Printer starts to print out like it would print doublesided but nothing is printed. (pushes paper out, pulls it back in and pushes it out again with 2 empty pages, but I only printed a 1-paged PDF)

This bug happens to me too, with only certain PDFs. I am not sure what makes a pdf not work in Evince, but I have attached one that works for me, and linked one that doesn't.

For example, this test PDF I just exported from LibreOffice prints perfectly (see attached), but an academic paper I downloaded always prints blank pages.

Link to paper that does not print: http://hunch.net/~coms-4771/quinlan.pdf

I can't even successfully print out the first page of this pdf, it always just makes my printer print blank pages. Note that the number of blank pages matches the number of pages it would have printed, as in, if I tell it to print just page 1, it gives me one blank sheet.

I tried printing the exact same pdf in SumatraPDF and it printed without issue.

Evince is my favorite PDF viewer, being able to print out pdfs is a very useful feature, I hope this gets fixed soon. Let me know if I can provide more information.

System information:

Evince version: 2.32.0.145
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Printer: Samsung ML-1865W

John Waffle, to advise, Launchpad is a bug tracker for bugs in Ubuntu (not Windows). Hence, please report your issue upstream directly (not in Launchpad).
