workaround is to install clipit (a parcellite fork) or install the ppa from rickyrockrat (https://launchpad.net/~rickyrockrat/+archive/ubuntu/parcellite-appindicator) (haven't tried this one but is referred in http://sourceforge.net/p/parcellite/bugs/140/?limit=25)

As higuita noted, parcellite can be updated to version 1.1.9 from ppa https://launchpad.net/~rickyrockrat/+archive/ubuntu/parcellite-appindicator
Installed, works fine working.
