wxMaxima ignores ~10% of keyboard input

While typing into a new cell in wxMaxima, approximately 10% of all keyboard input is ignored. Which keys it ignores has no discernible pattern. For example, typing the alphabet twice results in "bcdeghijklnopqrstuvxyabcdefghijlmnopqrstvwxyz"; it misses a, f, m, w, and z the first time and k and u the second time.
