Bug Description

In several places, the battery status for my Logitech M557 Bluetooth mouse is being incorrectly reported as a generic battery or laptop battery.

This shows up in two places related to gnome-power-manager. In the System Settings/Power screen, under the heading "Batteries" there are two bars, one for "Main" and one for "Extra." The "Main" corresponds to the laptop battery and the "Extra" corresponds to the mouse battery. I expected to see a separate entry for the mouse, or at least a more descriptive label than "Extra."

In the gnome-power-statistics interface, the mouse battery appears as "Laptop battery" with a model "Bluetooth Mouse M557." It should appear as a "Mouse battery: or "Bluetooth Mouse battery" or something similar.

I am not certain that this is the appropriate package for the bug report because I do not know which is responsible for the initial error or whether it is an independent error in several packages. If I am in the wrong place, I would appreciate help routing this to the correct place. This (or a similar) bug also shows up in indicator-power. Let me know if I should post a bug separately for that package---I am holding off because it seems possible that is a knock-on effect of the problem here and I don't want to spam the bug reports.

Same problem in Ubuntu 14.04 with a Dell XPS 13 9333. Extrangely, before upgrading to 14.04 from the original stock 12.04 Ubuntu version shipped with the computer, the mouse battery was reported correctly (as a mouse).

Mouse is Dell Travel Mouse WM524

Problem solved in 14.04.1 when reverted to original kernel:

$ uname -a
Linux jjc-xps 3.13.0-44-generic #73-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 16 00:22:43 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Problem happens when using updated kernel also in the repositories:

Linux jjc-xps 3.16.0-29-generic #39-Ubuntu SMP Tue Dec 16 20:54:13 UTC 2014 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

So problem may be kernel-related or upower/gnome-power-manager not understanding new kernels.

Previous report was generated with 3.16.0-29-generic #39.

People with 14.10 may try to boot with a 3.13 kernel and report here.
