cant apply style to individual text selections

Inkscape 0.91pre2 r13516 64bit Windows.

If I create 2 lines of text and select the second line with the text tool, I can not apply style changes to the second line like italic, boldness etc, I can select them in the window but there's no preview on the canvas and the close window is still grayed out.

This feature existed in 0.48.

It will work if you change font however, but only until the font is applied.

Not reproduced with trunk <lp:inkscape> r13697 and with <lp:inkscape/0.91.x> r13636 on OS X 10.7.5.

Based on tests with archived builds:
- reproduced with trunk rev 13518 (briefly after pre2 was tagged)
- reproduced with trunk rev >= 13616
- not reproduced with trunk rev >= 13617
this regression was fixed with the merge of the font loading changes from experimental into trunk in r13617:

The fix is also included in the stable release branch lp:inkscape/0.91.x which was branched from trunk at r13622.

The refactoring of font-related code (loading, caching, ui) in the experimental branch and its merging back into trunk was done by Liam P. White and Tavmjong Bah.

Note: The regression in builds based on the 0.91pre2 prerelease package only affects changing the style of the highlighted text via Text&Font dialog - AFAICT using the style dropdown list in the text tool controls bar on the same selected text works as expected.

Ah yes, didn't notice that. It does still work in the drop-down in the text tool controls bar. Not in the Text&Font dialogue.

Reproduced on Windows XP, Inkscape 0.91.x rev. 13690 and trunk rev. 13836.
Not reproduced with 0.48.5.

The bug now occurs the second time a sub-selection is modified. To reproduce:
1. Write some text.
2. Select some characters.
3. Open the Text and Font dialog.
4. Change the font size or the font style.
5. Apply .
-> The change applies correctly
6. Change the font size or the font style again.
-> The apply button stays disabled.

Note that using the Apply button deselects the applied family in the font family list, and it seems that the font selector needs a selected family to emit a font_set signal.

No, also reproduced on OS X 10.7.5 with Inkscape 0.91pre3 r13695 and 0.91+devel r13847, using the detailed steps to reproduce from comment #6.
